Rs 5 lakh for deceased woman sweeper

Imphal, March 10 2018: Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar today announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for a deceased sweeper of the Centre for Research on Environmental Development (CRED).

Th Shyamkumar said this while speaking as the chief guest of a function at the Community Gardening held at the Khwairamband Ima Keithel organised by Blooming Manipur in collaboration with IMC.

Toijam Tampha from Kiyamgei Khoirom Leikai, died on the spot after she was hit by a car while she was sweeping the road at Singjamei area on March 5.It may be mentioned that CRED is one of the organisations/NGOs which are working in collaboration with Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC).

Addressing the gathering, the MAHUD Minister appealed to the IMC workers to use safety sign boards (safety floor signs) while discharging their duties (mainly on National Highways) to avoid untoward incidents.

Appealing to the people not drive their vehicles in high speed, the Minister urged the public to obey traffic rules and regulations.

He appreciated Blooming Manipur for helping in beautification of Imphal and other areas by keeping many vases with different flowers at appropriate locations in the market.

Assuring that the Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department will provide all necessary help in their endeavour, he encouraged Blooming Manipur to expand their drive to other Municipal areas.

He appealed to the public to help and cooperate with the State Government in the mission to keep Imphal city and its surrounding areas clean.

He also appealed to the women vendors of Khwairamband Ima Keithel to join the gardening drive and help in watering the flowers.

Ngangom Uttan Singh, Joint Director, MAHUD, Th Harikumar Singh, Municipal Commissioner, Chingshubam Maneka, IMC Engineer, staff and sweepers of IMC, women vendors of Ima Keithel and others attended the function.
