Bakers' Meet held

Aimed at promoting bakery industries in the State, a one day Bakers' Meet was organised by Imphal Agro & food Technology Consultancy (IAFTC), Singjamei Chongtham Leikai at Imphal Hotel today.
Welcoming the participants, IAFTC junior scientist (food technology) Prithviraj Senjam said cited need for quality control of bakery items and promote better working conditions for those involved in the bakery industry as some of the factors for organising the meet.
Referring to representatives of flour mills and financial institutions attending the event, he explained that quality flour production is a basic necessity for ensuring healthy production of the food item and also termed loan facility being extended by banks as vital contribution in the development of the bakery industry.
Apart from sharing information on official procedures for getting loan, officials of Imphal Urban Cooperative bank and North East Development Financial Institute (Imphal), taking part at the meet would be prevailing upon the loanees about importance of timely clearance of loan in order to avail further assistance, said the junior scientist.
Stating that such meet would be helpful to ensure that the bakers do not compromise quality of the product, Prithviraj said out of 43 bakeries identified in the valley pockets during a specific survey, 11 have been making bakery items in oven operated through the electric power, diesel generator or LPG.
Dean of Economics Department of Manipur University E Bijoykumar, supervisors of Shree Flour Mill Industries Pvt Ltd Yumnam Nabachandra and Om Flour Mill Industries Pvt Ltd's Ahongsangbam Biswas, Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank's deputy general manager L Krishna Singh and NEDFI branch manager Rajiv Khaidem were also present at the meet.
