The tireless efforts of a restless mother had led to the rescue of her abducted son whose whereabouts were unknown till he was saved from the clutch of the abductors today.
Forty eight hours after Khwairakpam Megha was abducted by some police commandos in civil dress from Khagempalli area on May 6, the Assam Rifles today rescued him from Moreh and handed him over to the Imphal Police Station this evening.
At the same time, two police commando personnel accused in the abduction of Khwairakpam Megha of Kakwa Naorem Leikai, with his Honda Activa, have been arrested by the Singjamei police today under FIR 93 (5) 2009 Singjamei PS under Section 365/342/511/120-B, IPC and 25 (1)-B Arms Act.
The two accused police commandos were produced before the Court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal this evening, and have been remanded in police custody till May 16 .
The two accused are Thanggoumang Langel (26), son of P Langel of Dorcas Veng, New Lamka and Doukhochon Touthang (31), son of Jilkhothang Touthang of Yaingangpokpi, presently staying at Quarter No.95, National Games Village.
Thanggoumang Langel (Constable No.0615033) is a police personnel while Doukhochon Touthang (Rifleman No.08200019) is a rifleman in the 1st Bn Manipur Rifles attached to the Imphal East police commando.
The two were arrested yesterday by a team of Singjamei police led by its OC.
On interrogation, the two personnel revealed that the Honda Activa they seized from Kh Megha has been kept at a workshop at New Checkon to change the paint.
The vehicle has been recovered by the police from the workshop.
Not long before the two men revealed that the abducted man is still alive though kept in the outskirt of Imphal, Assam Rifles claimed to have rescued Kh Megha from Moreh and handed him over to Imphal police this evening.
However, family members said that the personal belongings of Kh Megha including a gold chain were missing.
Police officers concerned have refused to comment on how such a cruel crime was committed by a few personnel of the police and the manner in which the abducted man was rescued by the AR.
Rather they preferred remaining tight lipped on the matter.
Pishak was abducted from Khagempalli area on May 6 while he was riding a black colour Activa Scooter (MN 01Q-9658) along with a 14-year old boy riding pillion towards the Iron and Steel Workshop he owns.
The boy was freed while Megha was whisked away in a numberless Rakshak brand bullet proof vehicle.
Meanwhile, addressing a press meet earlier in the day on the matter at the office of MPP here, the leader of MPP Legislature Wing, MLA of Langthabal AC, O Joy, while holding the government responsible, said that it will be highly appreciable to detect in time the egregious act of some police commando personnel, who freely carry out illegal activities without knowledge higher officers.
It may be mentioned that family and Meira Paibee members of the locality have stormed the Singjamei police station yesterday demanding to produce the accused personnel in the kidnapping case.
Leaving nothing to chances, the restless Megha's mother Kh Mangi had left no stone unturned to trace her son alive.
Enquiring the whereabouts Kh Mangi had approached and knocked the doors of the SPs of Imphal East and West, ADGP, the Chief Minister, who is also the in-charge of Home.
At the same time, the MPP MLA O Joy has also acknowledged the help and concerned from the Chief Minister and the police department during the press conference.
