Folk music festival starts

A two-day festival on tribal and Meitei folk music of Manipur, organised by Actors' repertory Theatre has kick started at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen from today.
The festival is organised under the aegis of Union Ministry of Culture.
Cultural activist Dr Makhonmani Mongsaba, Manipur State Kala Akademi Archivist/Senior Officer Kh Bhubon and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC) lifetime president Ph Gunachandra and cultural activist Salam Rajesh graced the opening function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
In his keynote address, festival director Kshetri Jugindro said that the festival was organised to protect the age-old art forms of different communities of the State.
He expressed deep concern that many art forms are diminishing day by day.
Artistes from Liangmei, Kom, Tarao, Purul, Maring, Kabui and Meitei communities are taking part in the festival.
