Bisnhupur, September 20 2024:
Ningthoukhong meira paibis and INDIA Bloc Manipur have strongly condemned the gun attack perpetrated by unidentified miscreants at the residence of retired Chief Secretary and Janata Dal (United) vice president Oinam Nabakishore in Ningthoukhong yesterday around 9 pm .
O Nabakishore was also an intending candidate from Bishenpur AC in the 17th Lok Sabha Election.
The miscreants reportedly fired some rounds in front of the western gate at the JD(U) vice-president's residence.
In this connection, Ksh Shanta, secretary, CPI (M) and convenor, INDIA Bloc Manipur, asserted that India Bloc Manipur strongly condemns gun attacks at the home of any politician, regardless of whether he belongs to JD(U), BJP or any other party.
He made the statement during a press conference held at the residence of O Nabakishore today.
Claiming that recently people who have spoken out against the current dispensation have been targeted, Ksh Shanta pointed out the attack on Yambem Laba, president, Good Governance Party and JD(U) vice-president O Nabakishore most recently.
Stating that yesterday's gun attack marks the second time O Nabakishore has been targeted, Ksh Shanta appealed the concerned authority to provide security to the JD(U) vice-president as there are suspicions that it may be politically motivated.
He further called for the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate the matter so that similar attacks will be prevented in the future.
Denouncing such violent attacks, he maintained that a State functions when democratic powers are exercised regardless of whether one belongs to the ruling party or the opposition.
Comparing the current situation in Manipur to the fascist Nazi regime in Germany who committed many atrocities, he also condemned the Chief Minister's recent statement about Heirok, Thoubal and Wangjing people.
Terming his statement divisive and sowing the seeds of hatred among people, he asserted that on contrary INDIA Bloc views everyone as equal and as a single unit.
Many notable members of INDIA Bloc were present at the press briefing.
Meanwhile, condemning this incident, meira paibis of Ningthoukhong Ward No 7 staged a sit-in protest in front of O Nabakishore's residence today demanding a clarification from the perpetrators.
The protestors wielded placards with messages such as "We want peace", "We condemn gun attacks in residential areas", "Stop creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation among civilians" etc.
