Imphal, September 16 2026:
The Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) has introduced temporary, rotational power cuts across the State.
A press release issued by MSPDCL Managing Director Mangsatabam Rabi Singh said that this temporary, rotational power cut is a necessary measure to maintain grid stability amid severe power supply constraints.
It said that the State is currently facing a critical shortage of 90 MW .
Available power supply at present is 180 MW against the peak demand of 270 MW .
This shortfall is driven by lower hydropower output due to erratic rainfall linked to El Nino weather patterns, reduced thermal generation caused by coal shortages and supply bottlenecks and non-availability of power in the energy market, it said.
The MSPDCL Managing Director said that the MSPDCL has been exploring all possible alternatives to minimize the duration of these interruptions and restore normal supply as soon as possible, in coordination with the Government of Manipur.
