The Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur has informed to all concerned that whoever dealing with drugs and cosmetics without a valid drug licence issued from Drugs Control Administration under this Directorate will be taken as illegal and liable to be prosecuted under Section 18 (c) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and punishable under Section 27 (b) (ii) [imprisonment of one to three year with fine] of the said Act.
In a press release, N Rimotkumar Meetei, State Licensing & Controlling Authority, Directorate of Health Services informed that during the checking and verification process of the registry of Drug Licences maintained in this Directorate, cases of doubling of Qualified Persons are recorded.
Therefore the qualified persons/registered pharmacists (either self employed or retired) concerned are hereby instructed to rectify immediately to avoid cancellation of drug licences and pharmacy registration.
Likewise qualified persons registered in the drug licences and who are government employees viz.
in other non Health Departments, contractual or daily wages basis etc., are instructed for rectification to avoid penal provisions under Fundamental and Service Rules, the release added.
Further it cautioned that legal procedures will be initiated against those proprietors of wholesale drug licences practicing retail business.
