The Aimol Students' Union (ASU) has stated that it will file an RTI application regarding the failure to repair roads in Aimol villages in Tengnoupal district under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) .
Speaking to the media, ASU president S Khupminthang Aimol said that preliminary work to repair the road stretch from Aimol Satu village through Kombirei and Molnom to Saivom village was taken up in 2023 under the PMGSY by laying stones and other materials.
However, the work came to an abrupt halt despite the project fund having been sanctioned for blacktopping the road, he claimed.
Saying that the incomplete project has been causing immense inconvenience to local residents, he added that an RTI application would be filed regarding the matter.
He also said that a bridge constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD) at Aimol Kombirei in 2013 had fallen into a dilapidated condition, with the iron bars inside the structure now exposed.
The bridge could collapse anytime, he said and urged the Government to repair it.
Khupminthang added that the road connecting Satu village and Saivom village is an important route, as people from other places often use it as an alternative when landslides occur along the Moreh road.
