Wild elephants create havoc at Hojai

Hojai, December 30 2014:
Wild elephants have created havoc at Hojai sub-division under Nagoan district, Assam.
In a village, largely populated by Meiteis, the intruding animals are reported to have killed cattle and destroyed houses on their way.
According to the villagers, the wild elephants intruded into the village area more often than not in search for food.

The villagers are having a hard time trying to protect themselves and shoo away the elephants by shouting, burning crackers and making fires.
According to one Moirangthem Atomba, the rampaging elephants strayed into the villages of Balu Handor, Thoiren Khun, Pansali and Pachim Balu Handor from Sal Bagan forest and vandalized some dwelling houses.
The wild elephants are reported to have intruded into other Meitei villages of Gouranagar, Kala Khun, Udoipur, Nandapur, Dhoninagar, Amtola, Bishnupur, Rampur, Kalinagar, Rajbari Jugijan, Kathaltoli and Dariabasti.
