OHYSO celebrates golden jubilee

The Oinam Hill Youth and Students' Organisation celebrated its golden jubilee in a grand manner on Dec 27 and 29 at Oinam Hill village with the theme, "Reflect, Rejoice and Revive" .
Retd Chief Justice WA Shishak attended the function as the chief guest while R Th Theophilus Rangmathat, president, Poumai Naga Tsii Doumai Me was the guest of honour.
Sopha Longne, founding president, OHYSO presided over the programme.
Speaking at the occasion, Justice WA Shishak while talking about the July 9, 1987 incident and the subsequent launching of Operation Bluebird in and around Oinam Hill village area, said that it was an ugly incident and many hearts were broken.
He urged the villagers to find comfort in God.
Shishak exhorted the people to rejoice in the Lord in the midst of suffering while saying, "Do not go away from God in your suffering but stay close to Him always" .
He stated that the Nagas must walk and talk carefully.
"We must look to God and move forward.
For the Nagas, destiny is one", Shishak said.
On Dec 27, a monolith was unveiled while Daraih Peshai, president, OHYSO gave a welcome note.
A souvenir was released by the guest of honour, which was followed by demonstration of Oinam pottery making and grand community feast.
The second day was celebrated in the form of a seminar discussing three broad issues, "Environmental Concerns and Sustainable Development," 'Youth Empowerment and Socio-Economic Development' and 'Health and Education' .
L Thio Rong, chairman, Oinam Hill village exhorted the gathering.
Lawrence S Khah, Project Officer, DRDA, Senapati, Dr Ngulani Kho (MD), Senior Resident, JNIMS and Nehemiah Rong, Project Economist, DRDA, Senapati were the resource persons during the interactive sessions.
The celebration came to an end with a word of prayer by RS Nguni, Pastor, Oinam Hill Baptist Church.
