Imphal, May 13 2011:
Lamenting over the deplorable condition of the roads in Keirao Assembly Constituency, denizens of the Assembly constituency have demanded the Government to take up construction work of the roads before the onset of rainy season.
Speaking to mediapersons today, secretary of YDC, Keirao Jadumani pointed out that the condition of the road stretch from Iril to Mapal Lamdung, which is around 3 to 4 kms long, is so bad that many accidents have taken place and the entire road stretch looks like a pond during rainy season.
Construction work along the said road had been taken up once in 1999 and since then it has been lying neglected and no elected representative from the Assembly Constituency have ever listen to the complaint of the people in this regard, Jadumani lamented.
He further pointed out that fund for construction of the road under NREGS had been sanctioned.
But no work had been taken up with exception to dumping some stone chips.
Jadumani has also warned of taking recourse to agitation if the Government does not take up necessary measures for construction of the road before the onset of rainy season.
On the other hand, Keirao Apunba Meira Paibi Lup has objected to the alleged interference of the Minister and the police in the ongoing construction work of retaining wall and block pile along the embankment of Iril river in Keirao A/C on the ground that the Engineer or ASO concerned do not have the required work order.
Instead of interrupting the construction work, the Minister should help to ensure completion of a such an important work, the Lup said.
