A workshop on the theme 'a Historical Account of Moirang in the freedom Struggle of India' organised by Art and Culture Department, Government of Manipur was held at the Indian National Army hall, in Moirang today.
Manidco chairman MLA Dr Ratankumar and Moirang AC MLA M Prithiviraj attended the workshop's inauguration as the chief guest and functional president respectively while Commander of Loktak Brigade Command Brig NJ George along with director of workshop host Kh Sorojini were the guests of honour.
workshop speakers noting valiancy of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the freedom movement waged by the Indian national Army also remembered sacrifices made by thousands of INA soldiers in their march to Moirang where the tri-colour was first hoisted after independence.
They also recalled cordiality between the INA soldiers and Moirang public in the campaign against the British forces.
As resource persons, Head of Department (Political Science) of Moirang College Y Modhu deliberated on the topic 'freedom struggle of India: A brief historical account of Moirang'; m nilakanta on 'Eye witness account of the World War-II and Affectionate Association with the Japanese at Moirang'; Kumam Achouba of Moirang Khuman Leikai on 'Brief personal account of eyewitness, contribution of the people of Moirang to the freedom struggle'; and HC Sobha Moirang on 'Battle The Bloodiest'.
Including from outside Manipur, nearly 250 delegates participated in the workshop which would continue tomorrow in the form of obituaries to INA soldiers and commemoration of the first ever unfurling of independent India's tri-colour at Moirang.
