Imphal, March 03 2016:
Government Polytechnic Teachers' Association and Government Polytechnic Employees and Workers Association have launched an indefinite stir from today.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, Government Polytechnic Teachers' Association president Kangjam Chaoba said that they have stopped taking classes from today.
He said that violation of guidelines of the institute is detrimental to the career of the students.
He said that the two associations would oppose appointment of a junior officer as the Principal-in-charge of the institute.
The authority concerned must spell out the reasons why the senior teachers and officers were overlooked to appoint a junior officer as the Principal-in-charge, Tomba said.
Government Polytechnic Employees and Workers Association secretary Konjengbam Takeshwar said that the institute has been facing the problem of shortage of classrooms since January 4 when an earthquake damaged many buildings of the institute.
Although, the association has urged the Government to shift MIT and NIT from the campus of Government Polytechnic, Takyelpat through a memorandum submitted earlier, necessary steps in this regard are yet to be taken up, he said.
Saying that AICTE funded Rs 5 crore to the institute under its North East Quality Improvement Programme in 2013, Takeshwar said that not more than Rs 1.25 crore could be utilised till date due to weakness in the administration of the institute.
Maintaining that the amount was sanctioned to construct required classrooms, set up adequate laboratory and acquire furniture etc, he urged the authority concerned to look into the affairs of the institute at the earliest.
