World Soil Day observed across State

As observed across the globe, World Soil Day was celebrated in the State today under the theme, "Soils: Where food begins" to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources.
CHANDEL
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Chandel today observed World Soil Day at its Conference Hall in Lambung, Chandel district.
It was attended by N Munal Meitei; Assistant Conservator of Forests/Chandel; Dr A Ameeta Devi, Head, KVK, Chandel: and Dr K Sonamani Singh, SMS, KVK Chandel as presidium members.
At the event, N Munal Meitei stressed on the importance for sustainable management of soil resources.
He stated that World Soil Day is observed to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and - human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness and encouraging societies to improve soil health.
CHURACHANDPUR
ICAR-KVK Churachandpur, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre also celebrated World Soil Day at its office premises.
The inaugural function was attended by T Khaikhomang, ex-MDC Lanva Constituency; Dr L Somendro Singh, Head i/c KVK Churachandpur and Sutthianlal, Extension Officer, Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur as presidium members.
The function began with a welcome address by Dr N Johnson Singh, SMS (PP) .
The dignitaries highlighted the importance of soil and the need to utilize and preserve it in a sustainable way so that the future of agriculture & existence of human race can be rationalized.
Altogether, 52 farmers including 21 male and 31 female from different villages of Churachandpur participated in the event.
Later, experts of KVK conducted a technical session on soil sample collection and importance of soil testing.
THOUBAL
KVK Thoubal also observed World Soil Day at its Training Hall today.
It was attended by Oil Palm Mission Manipur consultant, MS Khaidem; Horticulture & Soil Conservation Thoubal, District Officer, Mutum Nabachandra and KVK Thoubal, Sr Scientist & Head, Dr S Zeshmarani as presidium members.
As part of the programme, Soil Health cards were handed over to selected 130 farmers of Kakching and Thoubal districts.
UKHRUL
In line with the observance of World Soil Day, KVK Ukhrul, ICAR Research Complex Manipur Centre organised an awareness programme for farmers under the theme, "Where Food Begins" at Lungshang village, Ukhrul.
At the event, Dr Solei Luiram, Head, KVK-Ukhrul, ICAR Manipur Centre encouraged the farmers to go for soil testing regularly to maintain soil health in their farms.
Dr Solei also urged them to adopt systematic farming to increase their production without degrading the ecology.
Dr P A Ramsem, SMS (Soil Sc) KVK-Ukhrul spoke on the importance of Soil Health and utility of Soil Health Card.
KA Shimreiwing, headman Lungshang village and secretary Thotngachan Varam expressed their gratitude to KVK Ukhrul for hosting World Soil Day in the village.
Soil Health cards and leaflets of soil sampling were distributed to the farmers.
