Governor V Shanmuganathan and Chief Minister Okram Ibobi led others in greeting the people of the State on the occasion of Christmas.
In his message, V Shanmuganathan said that the birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated as Christmas on December 25 every year and it is the most important festival in the life of a Christian anywhere in the world.
He was the apostle of peace and preached forgiveness, compassion and love, he said.
V Shanmuganathan said, "I congratulate the Christian missionaries for the massive expansion of educational institutions, hospitals and humanitarian services.
I once again wish the people of Manipur a very Merry Christmas 2015" .
Okram Ibobi said that Christmas is a festival of peace, harmony and goodwill.
It is the day when we remind ourselves that man can and must live in peace with his neighbours.
He said, "May the spirit of Christmas fill our lives with peace, love and prosperity.
I greet the people of Manipur especially our Christian brethren on the joyous occasion of Christmas, the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ" .
In his message, Hill Areas Committee Chairman Dr Chaltonlien Amo said, "Let the Christmas brings peace and harmony amongst the people of Manipur" .
IGAR (S) Maj Gen VS Sreenivas and all ranks of Assam Rifles also extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Christmas.
IGAR (S) expressed hope that the festival would herald an era of progress and prosperity in the region and promote unity, integrity and peaceful co-existence of all communities in the State.
"As we celebrate the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ, let us commit ourselves to his noble message of peaceful coexistence, brotherhood, love and compassion for all", IGAR (South) said.
Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council, SC/ST Department of MPCC, United Committee Manipur, All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation, Komrem Union, Manipur, All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation, Minorities Development Forum, Manipur, United Meetei and Pangal Organisations also greeted the people on the occasion.
