Not responsible for personal activities, says AMWJU

Imphal, December 22 2018: The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has condemned the arrest of Kishorchandra Wangkhem by the State Government under NSA as well as the disparaging and offensive statements made by some people including media persons against AMWJU and its office bearers through social media in connection with the arrest of Kishorchandra.

According to a press release issued by AMWJU publicity secretary Bishorjit Nameirakpam, AMWJU Standing Committee held a meeting today and strongly condemned the disparaging and offensive statements made by some people including a few media persons against AMWJU and its office bearers in connection with the arrest of Kishorchandra.

AMWJU Standing Committee never opted to remain silent over the arrest of Kishorchandra.

Since the time Kishorchandra was arrested by Nambol Police in July this year and again in August this year for making abusive and defamatory statements against the Government at his personal level, against the ethics of journalism, the Standing Committee always stood by his side, it said.

Kishorchandra also pledged before the Standing Committee that he would take all the responsibility for any awkward or offensive behaviour or activity in future.

Nonetheless, AMWJU condemned the way he was arrested under NSA by the State Government.

Moreover, AMWJU Standing Committee adopted a resolution on August 14 this year which categorically says that AMWJU would not take responsibility for comments, videos, pictures posted in social media by media persons at personal level or in case, they are found involved in criminal activities.

The same resolution was published in print and electronic media after it was signed by the AMWJU general secretary.

In the backdrop of this particular resolution, AMWJU has nothing to say regarding Kishorchandra Wangkhem who is currently lodged in judicial custody under NSA.

All those people who have been making disparaging and defamatory statements against AMWJU and its office bearers in connection with the arrest of Kishorchandra should come to the office of AMWJU and clarify their statements within three days else AMWJU would be constrained to initiate legal action, it conveyed.

The letter written by AMWJU president Brozendra Ningomba to the IJU on December 20 only highlighted the collective stand of the Standing Committee and the allegation that the Standing Committee was not consulted before sending the letter was baseless.

Moreover, AMWJU did not have any intention to discredit any revolutionary organisation through the letter, it clarified.
