Murderer son remanded till May 31

The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West on Friday remanded Sanjiv Das who was arrested for killing his mother on May 14 to judicial custody till May 31 .
Accused Sanjiv Das (26), s/o (L) Ganesh Das of Sangaiprou Kabui Khul was produced before the Court by a team of Lamphel police station on completion of police custody period with a prayer to send him to judicial custody.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that the uncle of the accused Kamei Raikumar Kabui (71) lodged a police complaint stating that his younger sister (Kamei Modhu) was hacked to death by her own son inside the common room of their house at Sangaiprou Kabui Khul at around 7.30 pm of May 14 .
The accused surrendered before the police after he killed his mother, following which he was arrested.
The body of the victim was handed over to Kamei Raikumar after autopsy at RIMS on May 15.On preliminary interrogation, it has been disclosed that the accused saw his mother returning home on the day of the incident (May 14) at around 7.20 pm after attending a celebratory programme of the students from the locality who cleared the recently declared Class XII examination, said the IO of the case.
The IO said that the accused took a cleaver (knife) from the kitchen and started attacking his mother who was just returning home.
Saying that the Kamei Modhu tried to escape from the house through the door at their common room, the IO said that the accused chased his mother and hacked her head and other body parts multiple times from behind using the cleaver.
After killing his mother, the accused tried to run away from the crime scene through the side door of their toilet on the eastern part of his house located behind the Sangaiprou Kabui Primary School and dropped the knife on the northern side of the school's toilet, said the IO .
Saying that the accused fell into a nearby drain and later surrendered himself before the police on duty at Sangaiprou, the IO said that the accused tried to mislead the investigation of the case by stating he had taken heroin at the time of the incident and was illusioning things.
The IO however said that the accused was found physically and mentally stable during a medical check up done at RIMS on the day of the incident.
It was further submitted that the accused is required to be remanded to judicial custody for further investigation and collection of evidence.
