Ban on movement in Lilong still effective, family members of COVID-19 patient admitted to quarantine center

Thoubal, April 04 2020: The restriction order on movement which was imposed in Lilong area by Thoubal DC following the detection of a second positive case of COVID-19 is still effective as a precautionary measure to prevent further infections.

It may be mentioned that one person from Lilong who had attended a religious gathering at Nizamuddin Markaz in South Delhi was tested positive for COVID-19, a disease caused by a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), recently.

The order was imposed as per the Manipuri Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulation 2020/ The district police also maintained a strict vigil across the Lilong area to enforce the order in view of the increasing threat COVID-19 in the State.

Speaking to media persons, Thoubal SP Dr S Ibomcha said that the police are on high alert and even use a drone to ensure the effectiveness of the restriction order.

Till date from the issuance of the order, the district police and staff of Health Department had traced 1057 contacts but not a single individuals showed symptoms of COVID-19, he said and lauded the public of Lilong for their co-operation with the authorities.

As movement has been banned in the area, the district police along with Noor Hospital and local organisations formed a public grievances cell to provide essential services to the locals of Lilong, the SP continued appealing all concerned to stay indoors and help the Government in combating the deadly virus.

Councillor of Lilong Municipal Council Ward no 5, Md Madani Ali assured that the populace of Lilong had given their best co-operation and to the Government and will continue to do so for the larger good of the State.

He also appealed the State Government to give more health facilities to the Lilong's denizens.

On the other hand, family members of the person from Lilong who is suffering from COVID-19 have been admitted to the quarantine centre opened at Darul Uloom Markaz, Lilong Haoreibi after they tested negative for the disease.

Altogether 21 individuals are currently staying at Lilong Haoreibi quarantine centre and 5 people who were exposed to the patient have been sent for testing.
