Wheat on PDS list

Wheat flour which is one of the PDS items but eluding the public for the past many years would be made available to the public from next month onward.
This was stated by Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister M Okendro in response to a query raised by MLA Joykishan during question hour in the State Assembly today.
Joykishan enquired about the quantity of wheat flour procured by the Government in a month and the contractor providing labourers at Sangaiprou FCS godown.
In reply, Okendro said that 1106 metric tonnes of wheat flour are procured in a month and the contractor providing labourers at the godown is G Bimolkumar Sharma, proprietor of Checkon based M/S BK Enterprises.
Responding to questions put up by Sagolband AC MLA RK Imo and Wangoi AC MLA O Lukhoi, the CAF&PD Minister stated that sugar allocation for Imphal West for the months of March, April and May this year were 2800 quintals, 1680 quintals and 1680 quintals respectively.
The CAF&PD Department is in charge of transportation of rice and sugar which are principal items of the Public Distribution System, he said.
Replying to a question put up by Wangjing-Tentha AC MLA P Brojen, Home Minister Gaikhangam clarified that road-blocks like drums put before police stations thereby making the roads single lane at these points was not done on any Government order but it was done by police to make frisking and checking easier considering the law and order situation.
Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that the Government has no plan to take over Imphal Art College but the Art and Culture Department has been providing annual grant in aid to the college.
He was responding to a query raised by MLA Ng Bijoy.
Responding to another query raised by MLA Dr I Ibohalbi, Ibobi clarified that even though the State Assembly resolved to upgrade ten Nagar Panchayats to Municipal Councils before the last Assembly elections but the same resolution did not include eight other Nagar Panchayats.
There are 83 unlicensed women vendors among the vendors occupying Khwairamband temporary market shed and the matter is being considered by the IMC, Ibobi informed the House in response to another question raised by Keishamthong AC MLA L Ibomcha.
