Veteran CPI leader Mangi joins BJP

Veteran CPI leader, Ningthoujam Mangi who has been elected four times to the State Assembly from Kumbi Assembly Constituency as a CPI candidate has formally joined the BJP today.
Popularly known as Kumbi Mangi, N Mangi was identified with the CPI for decades and was also a member of the National Council of the CPI.
N Mangi was given a rousing welcome at the State BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek, with Union Health Minister JP Nadda in attendance.
JP Nadda arrived here today on a two day visit to the State.
Addressing the gathering, JP Nadda went on the offensive against the State Congress Government and added that it has become synonymous with corruption.

That people want change can be gauged from numerous political leaders switching side to the BJP, declared Nadda.
Elaborating, Nadda said that the thumping win of numerous BJP candidates in the ADC election as well as in the by election at Thangmeiband AC and Thongju AC are more than enough indications that people want a political change.
Many BJP candidates also won in the Municipal and Naga Panchayat elections held recently, recalled Nadda and added that this is a sure sign that the Congress is on its last leg here.
The fact that a veteran leader of the CPI has joined the BJP is a sure indication that the BJP is on firm ground here, he added.
Expressing happiness over the joining of N Mangi, State unit president of the BJP, Th Chaoba said that his entry to the BJP will go a long way in strengthening the party.
N Mangi said the decision to join the BJP was taken after the CPI, Kumbi Council unanimously decided to join the BJP.
Three pradhans, two Municipal Councillors, ward members joined the BJP along with Mangi today.
Mangi said that his decision to join the BJP was dictated by the reality that it is only the BJP which can take the fight to the Congress and added that he will be in a better position to do something for the people of Kumbi now.
Mangi was Agriculture Minister in the Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) Government headed by late Wahengbam Nipamacha Singh who became Chief Minister after ousting Rishang Keishing of the Congress in 1997 .
