Jr Girls' NFC: Manipur make light work of Maharashtra in campaign opener

Moibungkhongbam Sanjana Chanu scored a brace as Manipur started their campaign with a 6-0 hammering of Maharashtra in Group B of the Junior Girls' National Football Championship 2023-24 (Tier 1 Group Stage) at Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Thursday.
The state girls showed their dominance from the word go and served up a three-goal barrage in the first period with Khumukcham Bhumika Devi scoring the opening goal after eight minutes before Nameirakpam Arina Devi extended their lead in the 12th minute and Hemam Linthoi Devi made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute.
After the interval, Manipur came up with three more goals as Moibungkhongbam Sanjana scored twice in the 50th and 67th minutes and Namram Lamnganbi Chanu was on target in the 90th minute to wrap up the victory.
Manipur are placed in Group B along with Haryana, Delhi and Maharashtra.
The state team's upcoming Group Stage fixtures see them play against Delhi on Saturday (September 23) and Haryana on September 25 .
16 teams have been divided into four groups in Tier 1, with the group winners progressing to the semifinals, which will be played on September 28 .
The final match will take place on September 30 .
