Public curfew imposed for two days

Public convention resolves to impose 'Public Curfew' all over Manipur on September 8 and 9 (Friday and Saturday) expressing dismay over the Central and State Government failure to resolve the prevailing communal crisis in the State.
The resolution to impose public curfew was taken during a one-day public convention held today at Sapam Community Hall in Thoubal district on the theme "No More Politics, No More Violence Against Innocent Lives" organised by Thoubal and Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) .
Apart from the above, a number of resolutions were taken in today's public convention attended by thousands of people from Kakching and Thoubal district.

TAKDAL Chairman Y Bhagyachandra, former IAS Officer RK Nimai and Head of Law Department, Manipur University Yumnam Premananda graced as the presidium members of the convention.
TAKDAL Convenor Waikhom Jotin read out the protest demonstration activities to be carried out during the public curfew.
The activities include burning of effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh at public places.
Considering the immense hardships faced by the people of the State, the convention urged the Central and State Government to take up immediate measures to end the communal conflict which has been going on for four months.
Further, the relevant authorities should ramp up resettlement activities of the indigenous people displaced by the conflict at their native lands by providing adequate security.
Raising concern on the extensive destruction of forest area for poppy cultivation, the convention demanded that the poppy cultivators should be wiped out.
Urging the civil society organizations (CSOs) to take a collective stand to fight against the external aggressors and all forms of forces posing threat to the peaceful co-existence and integrity of Manipur, TAKDAL pledged to extend full support for the cause.
The attendees paid tribute to the martyrs of the conflict by observing two-minute silence.
Representatives of Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS); Co-ordination Committee of 30 Assembly Constituency; Langsai Thouna Kakching and Youths of Manipur among others participated in the public convention.
