State Handloom Expo 2023 concludes

The State Handloom Expo 2023 (Hathkargha Mela) organised by Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDCL) concluded today at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi in Imphal East district.
The Expo was conducted under the aegis of Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textile, Government of India.
The closing ceremony was attended by E Jeeten, Managing Director, MHHDCL; Priyadarshi Daripa, Deputy Director, Weavers' Service Centre Imphal; Ksh Indira Devi, president Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers & Handicraft Artisans Cooperative Society Ltd; and Nilakuthi Apunba Meira Paibi Association secretary Paonam Pema Devi as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, E Jeeten shared that Melas have been conducted under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles from time-to-time to support local weavers & artisans and provide a marketing platform.
Highlighting the importance of organising such Melas to provide an opportunity to sell local handloom & handicraft products, he asserted that the Mela experienced a significant drop in the number of visitors this year due to the present unrest.
He continued that as per the 'Mela Calendar' released by the Ministry for the year 2023, MHHDCL and Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers & Handicraft Artisans Cooperative Society Ltd will be organising three Mela each while Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles will be conducting one Mela.
E Jeeten also mentioned that MHHDCL will be organising National Handloom Expo at Kolkata next month followed by Silchar and Imphal.
National and State awardee in the field of Handloom & Handicraft also took part in the event.
