Imphal, February 28 2024:
Commando personnel laying down arms and leaving their posts has caused panic among villagers living in sensitive areas of the valley.
The strike, in response to the abduction and assault of Additional SP (Ops) Moirangthem Amit and some Commando personnel by armed miscreants yesterday, has left sensitive places in some districts without adequate security, said sources.
Even as the commando personnel of several districts in the valley laid down arms, personnel who were guarding sensitive areas of Maphou Dam, Tumukhong Moirangpurel and Nungbrang etc have left their posts causing panic among the locals, said the sources.
Notably, these sensitive areas had earlier faced multiple attacks from Kuki militants.
Nungbrang Tumukhong Lairembi Youth Club secretary Ningthoujam Boboy Meetei said people in his village no longer feel safe in the absence of the State police commandos.
"Our village is situated between two hills, and there are credible reports of the presence of Kuki militants in a nearby hill.
Our villagers want the State security force to return to the village," Boboy said.
As the State security personnel have left the village, some families have started fleeing to safer places.
"People are panicking.
They want the security force to return to the village," he said.
