Imphal, September 21 2023: Kang-pokpi district has reportedly witnessed a spike in the number of drug users in the last couple of months with Motbung only having over 300 heroin users currently.

Speaking to The Sangai Express on condition of anonymity, people from Kangpokpi district headquarters, Saparmeina and Motbung said that the number of drug users in the district has increased manifold in the last few months.

Saying that there are many women and minor users in Kangpokpi too, they continued that many people don't disclose even if there are drug addicts among their family members.

CSOs, Church and public leaders have taken up several steps to prevent drug abuse in Kangpokpi, they maintained.

Not all Kukis are engaged in poppy plantation and there are many Kukis who are against drug business, they said and opined that widespread poppy plantations may be one factor for the spike in drug use.
