Ukhrul, February 27 2024:
Tangkhul Naga Timber Association (TNTA) temporarily suspended its ban on transporting forest products within its jurisdiction, which covers Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, and served a four-day ultimatum to the state government to fulfil their demands.
The Association's president, YL Rin, and general secretary, Ningon Kasar, in a press statement issued on Sunday, announced the temporary lift of the ban, stating that the decision was made after consulting with various civil society organisations (CSOs) .
They said that the association took into account the hardships faced by truck drivers who were stranded on highways due to the ban.
The TNTA had imposed the ban on February 19 as a protest against the sudden transfer order of Ukhrul and Kamjong District Forest Officers (DFOs) on February 6.The TNTA leaders advised all parties concerned to send their trucks towards Namlee and Wanglee during this temporary suspension period.
However, the Association cautioned that if their demands are not honoured and an amicable settlement not arrived at within the given four days, they will resume the indefinite: ban.
The TNTA leaders stated that once the ban is resumed there will be no considerations for anyone and TNTA will not be responsible for any untoward incidents.
