Community leaders seek solution to crisis

Participated by leaders of 18 indigenous communities settling in the state, a Community Leaders' Meet - 2024 was jointly organised by All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) and Maipak Ningthou Committee and adopted various resolutions, which were subsequently submitted in the form of a 5-point memorandum to the Governor and the chief minister.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, AMESCO vice president Chinglemba Wahengbam said that the Community Leaders Meet-2024 held at the Institute of Cooperative Management, Lamphelpat on February 26 was attended by Inpui Naga Union president Merajao, Thangal Union president YK Kaping, Komrem Union president Lalkhomang Serto, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur vice chairman Athon Gangmei, Kabui Union Manipur vice president Lanboi Kabui, Koireng representative R Yangshoshang Koireng, All Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Association president Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh, MMWO president Boboi Khorimayum, Chandel Naga People's Organisation president David Boyes and Waithou Chiru members representing the Chiru tribe.
Representatives of Moyon, Monsang, Tarao, Anal, Chothe, Maring and Aimol tribes also took part in the meeting virtually.
He further informed that the meeting unanimously resolved that state and central governments should shoulder the responsibility of restoring peace and harmony in the state, government should provide appropriate compensations to families of victims of the present crisis and special economy package should also be provided to different community sections which have been affected by the crisis.
The meeting also appealed to security forces and armed groups to avoid targeting the civilians, while also resolving to unitedly stand against any threat posed to the unity and integrity of Manipur.
Copies of the resolutions were also submitted to the Governor, the chief minister and the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly urging them to discuss the matter on the floor of the House.
