Imphal, February 27 2024:
While asserting that he is against the idea of conducting the last rites of his missing daughter by using 'Pangong', Hijam Kulajit, father of Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam, has demanded the government to trace body of his daughter and hand it over to the family members for completing the religious rituals.
Linthoingambi along with Phijam Hemanjit Singh went missing in July 6 last year.
Later, photos of both, before and after being killed while in the captivity of armed men, went viral on social media with the NIA picking up some suspects and registering a case for further probe.
Talking to media persons at his Sagolband Tera Tongbram Leikai residence, Kulajit regretted even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' programme, he is yet to comment on the case of his missing daughter in the last many months.
The distraught father also recounted that the Manipur Governor, chief minister and local MLA had assured of tracing his missing daughter and advised him not to perform the last rites of Linthoingambi till her body is recovered.
However, the body remains traceless till this day, rued Kulajit, while opining that absence of effective government measures deepens the suspicion that as Linthoingambi is/was from any ordinary family government authorities are ignoring sentiment of the commoners.
He also declared as the case has become a public issue and many students have suffered injuries in agitations launched to protest Linthoingambi's purported death, the public should decide regarding the further course of action.
Kulajit then appealed to the state government to take a definite decision in this regard in the upcoming assembly session.
