Imphal, February 28 2024:
Maintaining that normal life cannot be brought about by war but only through political dialogue, Thoubal Amashung Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) has pointed out the need for holding talks between the two warring communities as well as joint meeting of administrative mechanism, security forces, CSOs and media to find solution for peace.
In a statement, TAKDAL said that political leaders need to play a pivotal role to iron out the differences between the communities in conflict while army and other central forces should prevent unwanted incidents in sensitive areas.
The Lup also expressed that instead of trying to draw political mileage out of the humanitarian crisis, those in politics should strive to b ring solution to the crisis.
The state government should also consider the demands raised by various organisations and CSOs including TAKDAL for proper settlement for homeless and displaced people to their place of origin, restore peace and promote co-existence.
These demands should be discussed in the assembly session in addition to discussing for the welfare and development of the state, asserted the Lup.
The demand of TAKDAL for review of Highway Protection Force in the state, effectively enforce SoO ground rules, cede ST demand for Meeteis, monitoring of security forces deployed in the state and proper resettlement of displaced people, should be tabled in the House and solutions brought, the state added.
It also recalled former MP Rungsung Suisa urging the then Manipiur Maharaja to include Meeteis in the ST list of the Indian Constitution, while regretting that instead of according importance to such suggestion, he was humiliated the result of which people of Manipur are facing at the juncture.
The ongoing Meetei-Kuki conflict is part of the long term plan of the Kukis to create a Kuki nation (Zalengam) and definitely not fallout of the demand for separate administration of the Kukis, TAKDAL contended.
