AR busts contraband warehouse in Moreh

Imphal, February 27 2024:
Troopers of Assam Rifles busted a warehouse (godown) used for stocking of narcotics along with other incriminating items at Homeguard Veng, Moreh on Friday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the security team cordoned off a suspected house and carried out search in the presence of police during which 29.799 kilogram of WIY tablets, 0.386 Kg of heroin, 5.266 Kg of caffeine, 2.471 Kg of crystal powder, 8.299 Kg of gold dust, 7970 numbers of alprazolam tablets, 10 rubber stamps and other packing materials were found in possession of the house owner.
The overall cost of the seized items is approximately Rs 15 crore in the international market, the PRO informed.
During the search operation, a large crowd of women gathered at the location protesting against the arrest while non-lethal weapons were used by Assam Rifles to disperse the crowd while RAF personnel were deployed as a precautionary measure, the PRO informed.
The apprehended individuals along with recovered items have been handed over to Moreh police station for further investigation, the PRO added.
On the other hand, Assam Rifles along with Lilong police and Thoubal police commandos rescued one Khairuz Zaman and apprehended an abductor from Lilong, Thoubal district on Friday.
In a statement, PRO IGAR (S) informed that acting on a timely input, combined teams of Assam Rifles and police moved swiftly and extracted the victim without any untoward incident.
The motive behind the kidnapping and any potential connections to other incidents is under scrutiny, it added.
