Foundation laid for RIMS 150-bedded critical care block

Imphal, February 27 2024:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for construction of a 150-bedded Critical Care Block at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal via a virtual ceremony from Rajkot, Gujarat, as part of the Prime Minister-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission on Sunday.
The event, which took place at the Jubilee Hall of RIMS, was attended by chief minister N Biren as chief guest.
Union minister of state for education and external affairs Dr RK Ranjan, Lok Sabha MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze, Uripok MLA Kh Raghumani, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare joint secretary Vandana Jain, RIMS director Dr G Sunil Kumar Sharma, and medical superintendent Dr N Sanjib were also present at the programme.
Chief Minister N Biren commended the initiation of the Critical Care Block and emphasised its significance in enhancing healthcare services, particularly in response to emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.
He praised the efforts made during the pandemic, including establishment of oxygen plants and expansion of ICU beds and expressed optimism regarding the ongoing efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
In his address, Dr RK Ranjan highlighted the advancement in the state's healthcare sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister N Biren, while emphasising the timely supply of oxygen during the Covid pandemic.
MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze lauded the progress of RIMS and called for its further development, suggesting its upgrade to an AIIMS-like institute.
The event was attended by medical professionals and officials from RIMS, and various dignitaries among others.
