Imphal, February 27 2024:
Assuring that the Congress MLAs will make their presence felt in the Assembly keeping in mind the humanitarian crisis besieging the state which has led to loss of many precious human lives and destruction of both public and private properties, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra has asserted that the ongoing conflict can be put to an end if the central government makes special security arrangement to facilitate the 10 Kuki MLAs to take part in the upcoming assembly session.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Tuesday, MLA Meghachandra said that though the Assembly session will be for only five days, the Congress will make sure that all necessary points regarding the present crisis are discussed thoroughly.
The party will bring up Starred and Unstarred questions, calling attention motions, matters of urgent public importance, short duration question and private member resolutions during the session.
He further said that the Congress party will move a calling attention motion regarding the current crisis which has caused untold suffering to the people due to the failure of the state government, in addition to bringing up a private member resolution in connection with the meeting of the valley MLAs held on January 24 .
To accept it or not depends on the government, he added.
The MPCC president also informed that the party is all set to bring up calling attention motion, private member resolution and short duration discussion regarding failure of the government to control the law-and-order situation, the issue in Churachandpur and Moreh and the declaration of buffer zones by SPs in certain areas and prohibiting entry of people.
He also mentioned about the inability of state and central forces deployed in the state to end the continuous firing incidents in Manipur and said it is a first of its kind in the country.
Pointing out the need for reserving a day during the assembly session to discuss the present crisis only, the MLA said that discussing only the present crisis on a particular day will also fulfill the desire of the people of Manipur.
Moreover, if the state and central governments provide adequate security arrangement and enable the 10 Kuki MLAs to take part during this particular session, it will provide a platform to highlight all differences on the floor of the House and help in bringing an end to the crisis.
Further stating that the opposition parties will put up their demands in the decorous manner, the MPCC president appealed to the authority concerned to broadcast live the sittings of the House.
