Imphal, February 27 2024:
As the country prepares for the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) programme in connection with the National Immunisation Day from March 3 to 5, the Directorate of Family Welfare Services and State Health Society, NHM have set a target to immunise 3,53,774 children in the age group of 0 to 5 years.
Ahead of the mass vaccination campaign, a media sensitisation programme on IPPPI 2024 was held at the conference hall of Family Welfare Services, here, on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Family Welfare Services additional director Dr Chambo Golmei informed that the country had eliminated polio in 2011 but neighbouring countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan are still reporting polio cases, thereby necessitating the central and state governments to continue polio immunisation programme.
The campaign is organised in association with departments of social welfare, education and district administrations, he said.
State Immunisation Officer Dr Ksh Memcha said that the department is setting a target of administering polio drops to 3,53,774 children in the age group of 0-5 years.
The first day will be booth day, on which 14,246 vaccinators, under the guidance of 712 supervisors, will administer polio drops to children at 3564 booths to be set up in 16 districts.
The next two days will be mop up round, during which vaccinators will visit door-to-door to administer polio drops to any left-out children as well as those living in relief camps, who could not visit the booths.
Administration of polio drops will also be taken up at transit points like bus stands and market places for children from remote areas, which cannot be reached, she said while urging parents to ensure their children get the polio drops without fail.
On the other hand.
Imphal East District Task Force for Immunisation held a meeting at the DC office complex on Tuesday in relation with the IPPI programme with Imphal East DC Kh Diana chairing the meeting.
The district will run the campaign by setting up 515 booths with a target of covering 59,500 children.
