Imphal, September 06 2023:
Kuki MLAs and representatives of Kuki civil society organi-sations (CSO) and militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact met Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga at Aizawl today and discussed the prevailing situation in Manipur and their future course of actions.
The meeting chaired by Zoramthanga reportedly deliberated on the next move to be taken up by the Kuki MLAs, Kuki CSOs and militant groups under SoO pact in the strife-torn Manipur.
It is said that Thanlon AC MLA Vungzagin Valte was represented by his nominee during the meeting as he is unwell .

Notably, two among the 10 Kuki MLAs are in the Council of Ministers of the Biren Singh led Manipur Government and they are Nemcha Kipgen (Kangpokpi AC, BJP MLA) who holds the portfolio of Textiles, Commerce and Industry and Tengnoupal Constituency BJP MLA Letpao Haokip who is Tribal Affairs Minister.
The other Kuki MLAs who attended the meeting are Saikul AC MLA Kimneo Haokip (KPA), Saitu AC MLA Haokholet Kipgen (Independent), Tipaimukh AC MLA Ngursanglur Sanate (won the election on JD-U ticket and later joined BJP), Henglep AC MLA Letza-mang Haokip (BJP), Chura- chandpur AC MLA LM Khaute (won the election on JD-U ticket and later joined BJP), Saikot AC MLA Paolienlal Haokip (BJP) and Singhat AC MLA Chinlun-thang (KPA) .
According to credible sources, the meeting deliberated on possible ways and means to get separate administration for Kuki people in Manipur, improving the condition of National Highway stretch connecting Churachandpur and Mizo-ram expeditiously, seek relief package from the Centre for the displaced Kuki people and to intensify the movement demanding separate administration for the Kukis and their kindred tribes.
The Kuki CSOs, on the other hand, highlighted their resolution to continue their movement until separate administration is given to them.
The sources continued that Zoramthanga assured to provide all possible assistance to the Kukis in Manipur in their movement during the meeting.
It may be mentioned that the violence in Manipur broke out first at Churachandpur on May 3 after the solidarity rally of All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) turned violent and started attacking Meiteis and their settlement areas.
The situation was tense at Churachandpur even before the May 3 incident.
