Sit-ins demand SoO end, AR's exit

Imphal, February 27 2024:
Under the aegis of People's Alliance for Peace and Progress, Manipur (PAPPM), Meira Paibi organisations and local clubs organised sit-in demonstrations in different parts of the state on Tuesday demanding abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement signed with the Kuki-Zo militants, removal of Assam Rifles from the state, and implementation of NRC to detect and deport illegal immigrants.
People who participated in the demonstrations held placards inscribed with slogans such as "We want peace", "Remove double standard Assam Rifle", "Abrogate SOO with Kuki militants", and "Deport illegal Kuki immigrants" among others.
The protests were held at Khurai Konsam Leikai, Khurai Puthiba Nandeibam Leikai, Khurai Chaithabi Leirak Machin, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, Khurai Tharo Devi ground, Sawombung, Chingarel Tejpur, Phaknung, Kongba Keithel, Kongba Ola Club, Kongba Khunou Imoinu Keithel, Kongba Kshetri Leikai Panthoibi Shanglen, Singjamei Ima keithel, Kongpal, Leirou Pukhri, Paona Bazar, Kangabam Leikai, and Yairipok Keithel.
Similar protests were also held at Leirenjam Sabal, Changangei, Malom Tulihal Makha, Malom Tuliyaima, Utlou, Meitram, Kodompokpi Lamkhai, Lairenjam, Senjam Khunou, Langthabal, Naoremthong Laishram Leirak Machin, Naoremthong Khullem Leikai, Samushang, Lamboi Khongnangkhong, Lamdeng, Mayang Langjing community hall, Akham Mayai Leikai, Phayeng Keithel, Lairenkabi, Heibongpokpi Tera Urak, Lamlongei, Lambal, Sanjenbam, Moidangpok, Awang Khunou, Konthoujam, Elangkhanpokpi, Wabagai, Hiyanglam, Keirak, Khoidum, Wangoo, and Umathel among others.
On the other hand, Meira Paibi organisations of Khurai area submitted a memorandum to Union home minister Amit Shah through Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Tuesday demanding abrogation of the SoO pact and effective measures to stop illegal poppy cultivation and activities of narco-terrorists.
