Protest staged against AR's legal notice

Thoubal, September 06 2023: Protest demonstrations were staged at different places demanding removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur and legal notice served by Assam Rifles to Maheshwar Thounaojam, Republican Party of India (Athawale) National Secretary.

Pourabi Lamjing Nupi Marup organised a sit-in protest at Pourabi Lainingthou Puthiba Community hall yesterday demanding the withdrawal of legal notice served to Maheshwar Thounaojam.

It may be noted that the Assam Rifles issued a legal notice to him on the charge that he made derogatory remarks against the Assam Rifles.

The protestors chanted slogans such as 'Withdraw Assam Rifles from Manipur', 'Withdraw legal notice served to Maheshwar Thounaojam immediately', 'Protect territorial integrity of Manipur', etc.

Speaking at the occasion, Pourabi Lamjing Nupi Marup Secretary Irom Inao said that many innocent lives have been lost due to rampant attacks carried out by Kuki militants and thousands are facing immense hardships owing to the ongoing conflict.

Therefore she urged the Government to take up sincere efforts to resolve the communal conflict rather than making false claims about restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Further she warned that Pourabi Lamjing Nupi Marup will stage intense agitation if the legal notice is not withdrawn.

Meanwhile, a sit-in was staged at Thoubal Athokpam Khunou yesterday organised by Meira Paibis of Thoubal Athokpam Khunou.

The sit-in protest was staged against the legal notice served by the Assam Rifles.

Speaking at the sidelines, Meira Paibi Oinam Ranjita said that it is highly condemnable that a legal notice is served to Maheshwar who has been vocal in presenting the correct narrative to the world about the communal crisis in Manipur.

Acknowledging his relentless efforts, she demanded that legal notice should be withdrawn at the earliest.
