Imphal, September 21 2023:
The locals have strongly opposed the proposed plan of deploying Central Security Forces at BSNL Office in Sawombung under Lamlai Assembly Constituency in Imphal East district.
In this regard, a public meeting was held today at Sawombung Community Hall today attended mostly by Meira Paibis of Sawombung, Wairi, Pourabi, Ningoi Awang Leikai, Maniyaikhul, Faknung and Tejpur.
The meeting resolved that no Central Security Forces should be deployed in BSNL Office Sawombung or in the surrounding areas as the place has been relatively peaceful and there is no report of untoward incidents ever since the outbreak of communal violence in the State.
Speaking at the occasion, a Meira Paibi leader maintained that the people have no faith in Central Security Forces as their role in this crisis is highly doubtful.
In view of the echoing demand for removal of Central Forces from Manipur, she said that the locals will not accept the deployment of Central Security Forces in Sawombung area.
She asserted that the locals will defend themselves and their territory and they do not need the Central Forces who have been alleged of biased attitude towards the Meiteis.
Stating that Manipur has been in a war like situation for the past four months, she said that the youths and volunteers have been working relentlessly to safeguard the people when the Government has failed to do so.
With regard to the arrest of five village defenders by a combined team of State forces, she urged all concerned to release the arrested youths without any terms or conditions failing which intense agitation will be carried out.
It may be noted that wide scale protests are being carried out across the State demanding immediate and unconditional release of the five individuals who were arrested last week.
