Gaipuinam United Football Association (GUFA) wrested the title of the 7th Jadonang Memorial Football tournament with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Khoupum Taodaijang Youth Club (KTYC) at THAU sports Academy ground today.
Even though an impressive crowd thronged at the venue expecting a keen tussle the summit clash failed to live upto the hype as GUFA struck at regular interval to win the match and walk home richer with the Rs 25,000 top prize in addition to the winners' trophy.
The eventual champions' opener came 15 minutes into the game through Duanmei before Khamsinthui doubled the advantage in the 33rd and Jempu Gonmei put the match beyond KTYC's reach with an 86th minute strike.
The runners-up team was presented the trophy and Rs 15,000 as third place Keikhu Youth Club received Rs 5000.Cash prizes of varying amount and donated by different individuals were also distributed to Benjamin Kamson of GUFA who was adjudged the top scorer of the tournament on nine goals; Best player title winner R Pousingkham (KTYC); Best goalkeeper Thonku Pamlei (Sairem YC); Best march past team Keishamthong FC; Best discipline team Kakhulong Youth's Committee.
The final match and closing ceremony were held with Education Minister L Jayantakumar Singh, PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken Singh and Vice chairman of Hill Area Committee Khangthuanang Panmei as the chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
The tournament organised by Zeliangrong Football Association commenced on November 10 with 15 teams participating in it.
