Alleging that drivers and helpers of six passenger buses plying along Imphal-Ukhrul route were severely bashed up by a team of team of police personnel led by the second OC of Ukhrul police station without giving any reason on November 29, the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor Workers' Union has strongly condemned the alleged excess committed by the police team.
A press release issued by the Union identified the victims of police atrocity as Amom Rajkumar of Wangoo Naodakhong, Wahengbam Maniyaima of Huikap Mayai Leikai, Chingshubam Roshan of Senjam Chirang, Thotngam of Poirou, Khunumayum Devan of Andro and Ningson David of Horton, Ukhrul district.
Informing that the Union has not only submitted a written memorandum to the IG (LO-III) but also talked with him on November 30, the Union demanded that guilty police personnel be suspended within seven days.
Otherwise the Union will support the stir to suspend bus service along Imphal-Ukhrul route.
It concluded with an appeal to the IG (LO-III) and SP Ukhrul to take up necessary actions at the earliest.
