State Nehru Hockey Tournaments : UNACCO School-Meitram crowned U-17 boys champions

Imphal West's UNACCO School-Meitram emerged champions of the 51st Nehru Junior Boys Hockey Tournament 2023 organised by the Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports here at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium.
UNACCO School overwhelmed Five Star English HS-Lilong Dam of Thoubal district 10-0 in the title clash today to seal the State title and earn the opportunity to represent Manipur at the Nehru Junior Hockey Tournament 2023 organised by JN Hockey Tournament Society.
Y Rishi, S Sanson and L Max scored two goals apiece to hand the Imphal West school the comprehensive victories.

Captain S Sanson opened the scoring as early as three minutes into the game and S Borish chipped in the second goal two minutes latter to give UNACCO School a 2-0 first quarter lead.
The second period saw L Max scoring the team's third goal in the 22nd minute before Sanson scored his second and P Jackson (23') and M Thoiba (27') took their turns to add a goal each to make it 6-0 at halfway break.
Y Rishi then hit a brace (35', 37') and Ksh Borish added one (41') in the third quarter to make it 9-0 against the hapless Thoubal team before L Max converted a penalty corner for his second 1 minute away from full time.
29th State Junior Girls Nehru Tournament
UNACCO School-Meitram will face off against Wabagai High School in the final match of the junior girls Nehru Tournament.
UNACCO finished Group winners with 11-0 thumping of Five Star English HS of Thoubal district for the third straight victory in the last match of the tournament.
H Henthoi led the scoring as she smashed home five goals (9', 17', 18', 21', 47') while L Ritu (12', 38'), K Eleena (22', 50') and Daina W (24', 36') contributed two goals apiece.
The Kakching team emerged group stage runners up with two wins in three matches.
40th Sub-Junior Boys Tournament
In the 9th match of the sub-junior boys tournament, Five Star English HS of Thoubal district edged past Bishnupur district's Thaimei Guiganpou English School 4-2 .
O Akash (7') and P Michael (27') scored a goal each in the first two quarters to give the Thoubal district team a 2-0 lead before Bishnupur school drew level in the third quarter courtesy back to back goals from L Raju (39') and H Luhenba (41') .
O Akash however scored his second in the 48th minute to retain the lead for the Thoubal team before L Lanchenba struck the decisive goal in the 51st minute.
In the 10th match, Imphal East's Young Pioneers' English School demolished Kakching district's Wabagai High School 17-0 as Vishal Waribam ran riot to flick home 5 goals alone (12', 22', 49', 53', 60'), and Th Yaiphaba (6', 21', 39', 58) and M Manimatum (19', 30', 38', 42') contributed four goals apiece.
K Suraj (18'), Th Avinash (22'), S Neetil (25') and W Deris (42') also added a goal each to help the Imphal East team record a comprehensive win.
