Imphal, August 28 2023:
Senior Citizens' Club (SCC) Manipur has condemned in the strongest term the 'cooked up kidnapping story' made by three girl students in their attempt to avoid punishment at school, and urged their parents to advice their wards on the possible serious fallout of such acts.
In a release, SCC said that the incident of kidnapping of 20 students; which later turned out to be a fabricated story cooked up by three girl students skipping tuition classes, went viral on social media and created widespread panic, anxiety and anger among the public.
In the backdrop of the prevailing unrest situation, the fake news had the potential for grave consequences, the Club said, adding that the unfortunate incident had the propensity of adding more fuel to the already tense atmosphere.
Meanwhile, subsequent to confirmation about fabricating the kidnapping tale, womenfolk in large number stormed Nambol police station on Monday afternoon demanding action be taken up against three students and their respective parents over spreading false report and creating confusion and apprehension among the public amid the restive situation in state.
Report of three female students of Haokramban High School, Kabowakching under Nambol police station being kidnapped by unknown miscreants in black dresses went viral on social.
The enraged womenfolk were pacified after additional SP (Ops) Amarjit and Nam bol police station officer in charge A Nabakanta Sharma assured them necessary action but clarified that the students were minor.
