AR recovers liquor, nabs man with pistol

Imphal, August 28 2023:
Assam Rifles recovered Myanmar-origin illegal liquor and suspected contraband at Aina in Churachandpur district on Sunday.
In a release PRO IGAR (S) said that a mobile vehicle check post of Assam Rifles intercepted one TATA Yodha (MN01 AA 4210) along with driver Siamsing Guite, son of Thangoulian Guite and co-driver Asupjamlal Guite, son of Ngulksam Guite, both of Vengnuam New Lamka, Churachandpur at Aina sector of National Highway-02 .
It informed that the recoveries included Myanmar-origin 87 bottles of Whisky costing approximately Rs 13,000, 43 Beer cans (300 milliliter each/Rs 8,000), 2400 bottles of local liquor (one litre each/Rs 10,00,000) and suspected narcotics powder weighing one kilogram.
The seized items and the people were handed over to Churachanpur police station.
On the other-hand, Assam Rifles apprehended an individual brandishing pistol at Kakching Lamkhai on August 26 .
While escorting 22 repatriated citizens from Moreh to Imphal, the convoy was confronted by an unruly mob of approximately 1000 individuals at Kakching Lamkhai junction.
In the midst of peaceful negotiations, a suspicious behaviour by one Naoram Sanjoi Singh was noticed by the soldiers as he moved surreptitiously and then brandished a pistol.
In response to the open threat, he was swiftly overpowered and his weapon secured.
Subsequently, both the individual and the confiscated weapon were handed over to the Kakching Police Station for further legal proceedings.
The confiscated items included a pistol, ammunition, personal documents, and electronic devices.
The incident transpired in the midst of a potentially tense scenario, underscoring the inherent challenges often encountered in upholding peace and harmony, the release added.
