Imphal, May 20 2015 :
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has welcomed Education Minister M Okendro's decision to take action against the teachers of Government schools, which could not produce even a single student, who could pass this year's Class X and Class XII examinations conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM respectively.
Speaking at a press conference, DESAM president M Angamba said that before awarding punishments or forcing the teachers to retire voluntarily, the State Government must also constantly check whether these teachers are present at their respective schools regularly.
He said that there are many teachers who are not even recognised by the residents of the locality where the school is located.
Saying that there are also many teachers against whom the authority concerned are unable to take action as they are the near and dear ones of Ministers and MLAs, Angamba also urged the Minister to end such system of favouritism first.
Maintaining that teachers must not be blamed alone for the poor results shown by the Government schools, Angamba said that the Education Commissioner, Directors, Zonal Education Officers, AIs and DIs must also be equally responsible for it.
He said that while most of the AIs and DIs do not discharge their duties properly, majority of the staff of the Education Department attend office after 11 am.
Angamba also questioned why the Department concerned does not provide adequate teachers to Government schools although a large number of teachers had already been recruited in the past couple of years.
He also urged the Minister to adopt a far-sighted vision to bring a change in the education system of the State.
He further said that Education Minister's assurance to depute good teachers at better posting places has exposed Minister's inability to look the Government schools equally.
DESAM secretary general P Premananda said that 34 Government high schools had failed to produce even a single student, who could pass this year's Class X examination.
Regarding Class XII examination, Premananda said that of the 305 students of Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary appeared in the examination, only 90 students could pass it.
Two students passed of the 26 students of Mekola Gulab Higher Secondary School while Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School produced only four students who could pass this year's Class XII examination, he said.
Of the 52 students of Lamlong Higher Secondary School appeared in the examination, only 12 students could pass.
334 students of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy appeared in the examination, Premananda said and added that only 41 students could pass.
