In connection with the reported threat from the proscribed KYKL to the Muslim populace of Phoubakchao area, a public meeting was held today at the premises of Phoubakchao Makha Primary School with representatives of TIPS, UCM, UPF, MAFYF, MALSO, YUDCO and NIPCO.
A press release issued by Phoubakchao Muslim Peace Committee informed that the meeting decried the reported pressure from KYKL on the villagers to make PULF retract their 'steps'.
The meeting also condemned the monetary demand of Rs 2 lakhs each made to six villagers.
They also condemned the act firing several rounds at the residence of one Md Basir Ali by some 15 unidentified persons on August 23 .
It further took strong exception to the act of turning on unarmed villagers because of conflicts between armed groups.
The meeting agreed that it was an act of injustice to make huge monetary demands from the economically unsound families of Phoubakchao, Sekmaijin and Khordak Ichil areas.
It further resolved to appeal to all organisations not to make unrealistic monetary demands from the people of these villages.
Another resolution of the meeting was to find a solution to the present impasse jointly by Phoubakchao Muslim Peace Committee and civil organisations which took part in today's meeting.
