Imphal, October 10:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) decried the Government order of terminating the services of 466 part-time lecturers without making an alternative arrangement or bringing about an amicable solution to the ongoing strike of the part-timers.
Addressing a press conference at its Keishampat office here this afternoon, vice president of the student body PC Newton asserted that the Govt should try to bring about an amicable solution to end the ongoing strike of the part time lecturers and not try to disturb the academic calendar of the students.
He said the Govt order of terminating the services of 466 part-time lecturers without making an alternative arrangement is condemnable.
Such irresponsibility on the part of the Government would also have its direct impact on the career of the students, he added.
While pointing out that out of the total 1055 teachers working in various colleges, 466 are part-timers, Newton said these part time lecturers have been on strike since September 25 demanding among others State policy to regulate their services.
So terminating the services of these 466 part-timers simply by date backing and without resolving the issue or making an alternative arrangement would become one of the major causes for disturbing the academic calendar of the student, Newton reiterated.
It would be very wrong on the part of the Government to newly appoint part-time lecturers even after the Supreme Court has passed a ruling against further appointment of teachers on part-time, contract or adhoc basis and regularisation of their services, Newton said.
He also categorically added that the Education Minister L Nandakumar and the Govt should be solely held responsible for any consequences of the fallout of the Government order of terminating the services of the part-time lecturers.
