Imphal, August 27 2016 :
The Hmar Students' Association (HSA) has formally and officially withdrawn from the Joint Action Committee Against Anti-Tribal Bills, Churachand-pur with effect from August 26 .
In a statement, the student body said that the decision to withdraw from the JAC was taken after minute deliberations by the HSA GHQs, HSA State Coordinating Committee, Manipur and HSA, Churachandpur JHQs, wherein it was decided that it is no longer necessary for the HSA to be a part of the JAC when its representatives have been totally ignored and by passed in all major decisions.
The student body also noted with dismay the act of violence by activists of the JAC at Rengkai during the total shutdown at Churachandpur and urged all to refrain from forcefully enforcing any sort of agitation and resorting to violence without the consent of the Hmar civil society organisations in Hmar dominated areas.
HSA said that it has already submitted its grievances in writing to the authorities concerned and added that it will oppose any anti-tribal Bill or Bills in their capacity.
The student body also called for mutual respect and peaceful co-existence of all communities in Churachand-pur.
