AITUC calls 12 hrs general strike on September 2

The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur has said that it will back the nation-wide general strike call of central trade unions on September 2 .
AITUC, Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar in a press meet today said central trade unions during a meeting had reiterated their decision to strike work on September 2, 2016 in support of their long pending demands.
AITUC, Manipur, in support of the decision will also strike work from 6 am to 6 pm of September 2 here in the State.
The Narendra Modi led NDA Government in the centre has enacted a number of new legislations and amended different existing Labour Laws in the interest of some individuals but, all these new legislations and amendments severely marginalise the interest and rights of labourers, he said.
The Government of India by rejecting the recommendations adopted at the 43rd, 44th and 45th Indian Labourer Conferences about insuring minimum wages, uniform wages and other benefits as entitled to other regular workers, exposed its anti-labour policies, he said.
AITUC, Manipur has been demanding measures for containing price-rise, containing unemployment through concrete measures, enforcement of the Food Security Act and all basic Labour laws, social security cover for all workers, provision of minimum wage of not less than 18000 and pension of not less than 3000 Rs, continued sanction of funds in both central and State PSUs, stop recruiting candidates on contract basis for a permanent post, provision of equal pay and other benefits to both contract and regular employee.
The union also demands that labourers should be entitled to bonus provident funds and there should not be any ceiling, registration process for trade union should be completed within 45 days, implementation of ILO convention charter no 87 and 98, do not allow Foreign Direct Investment in Railways, Defence and other strategic sectors and ending of amendment of existing Labour Laws without dialogue.
The union has also been demanding development of all National Highways to a four lane and employment of highway protection force.
It also demanded full implementation of National Food Security Act while condemning the proposal for fresh recruitment of constables.
