Imphal, April 18 2017:
Former MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C RK Anand has refuted the allegations made by the current MLA Soibam Subhaschandra claiming that he had supplied only four months worth of rice grain under the National Food Security Act to the people of the constituency and kept the rest for himself.
Speaking to media persons at his Kwakeithel Akham Leikai residence, RK Anand claimed that the allegations are false and the current MLA is trying to slander his name and reputation with baseless rumours.
RK Anand said that he tried his best to provide rice to the people and added that during his second term, the process of distributing rice faced some difficulties due to the implementation of National Food Security Act and the strict guidelines of the Government of India.
The difficulties and inconveniences faced during distribution of rice was felt by the people of the State as a whole and not only the constituency, he conveyed.
He further claimed that he had appealed to the Minister concerned at that time to solve the issue at the earliest and to make arrangements for distributing rice to the households which did not possess the requisite cards.
The Panchayat and the authority are responsible for making the priority list and the cards while the necessary documents and the final distribution of the rice are handled by contractor and the agents respectively, he added.
RK Anand explained that he did not have any authority over the whole process except for providing some advice and guidelines adding that he did not have any NFSA beneficiaries cards in possession.
He further urged the State Government and the current MLA of the constituency to enable smooth and problem free distribution of rice for the people while also pointing out that he had contributed immensely towards providing safe drinking water to the people of the A/C, repaired more than 70 percent of the roads and taken up a huge number of developmental projects for the constituency during his time.
