Drivers call off stir after CM's assurance

Imphal, April 18 2017:
After Chief Minister N Biren Singh today assured deploy-ment of security personnel along the National Highways, All Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters Association and All Manipur Petroleum Products Drivers Associa-tion have decided to call off their indefinite cease work strike with immediate effect.
The associations also demanded that the culprits who fired at an oil tanker be punished.
During the meeeting with the associations at the Chief Minister's office, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that intensive combing operation has been already launched in the area by a combined team of State and paramilitary security personnel and promised to pull up the culprit(s) and take up necessary legal action within 15 days.
The Chief Minister also promised to provide ex-gratia to the drivers and transporters who lost their lives and sustained injuries while on duty.
CAF and PD Minister Karam Shyam, Parliamentary Secretary (Home) L Sushindro Meitei, Parliamentary Secretary(RD and PR) Heikham Dingo Singh, Addl Chief Secretary (Home) Suresh Babu, DGP LM Khaute and other top civil and police officials were also present at the meeting.
