New political party floated in state

Imphal, June 17 2011:
A new political party, called the Manipur Democratic People's Front (MDPF), has been floated in the state, G Tonsana, president of the new party informed.
The president said that the party was formed in the month of September 2010 and had applied to the ECI for recognition in the same month.
The ECI has registered it under section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as a political party, on April 26, 2011, as per an intimation of the ECI secretary Varinder Kumar to him, he said.
The party will not be entitled to the reservation of any exclusive symbol for it.
However, candidates duly set up by the party at an election will be entitled the benefits of preference in allotment of free symbols over independent candidates under paragraph 12 of the Election Symbol (Reservation & Allotment Order 1968, he said.
Peace, prosperity and co-existence among the different communities residing in the state is the motto of the political party, he asserted.
To build a political atmosphere in which all "democratic pressure" groups could participate in the government, to demand more autonomy to the state, etc.
are other objectives of the party, the president said.
The party will work for the betterment of the people of the state, he assured while announcing that the party is expecting to field candidates to at least 30 Assembly constituencies.
